• Under the direction of Father Loosbrock, construction of the school and convent began in May of 1961 on thirteen acres of the Green Acres addition in southwest Maquoketa.  The architects, Durrant and Bergquist of Dubuque, won first prize from the American Institute of Architects for their plans of the building.  The total cost of land, buildings, and furnishings was $400,000.       
  
  The school opened for grades 1-6 on September 4, 1962, with 169 students enrolled.  Seventh grade was added the next year with eighth grade added the following year.  On June 6, 1965, thirty-one students graduated from eighth grade.  The seventh and eighth grades were discontinued after the 1970-71 school year.  In 1983, kindergarten was added.
  In the fall of 1999,  a multi-aged preschool was opened in the assembly room under the rectory.  Later, the preschool was moved to the former convent.
